Bollywood remembers 'brave daughter'

Describing actor-turned-politician J Jayalalithaa as a strong woman, Bollywood on Tuesday condoled the death of the  AIADMK supremo. Lata Mangeshkar and superstars Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter to express their grief over the death of the 68-year-old leader.

“Jayalalitha ji ke swargwas ki vaarta sunkar mujhe bahut dukh hua. Ishwar unki aatma ko shanti de,” tweeted Lata Mangeshkar. “Not just Tamil Nadu but the whole of India lost a brave daughter. May her soul rest in peace,” Rajinikanth tweeted.

“Deeply grieved at the passing of Jayalalitaa ji... a strong woman...Jayalalithaa ji the only CM of a State that celebrated 100 years of Indian Cinema... from all regions... most admirable,” tweeted Bachchan. “Sad to hear of the passing away of Jayalalithaaji…May her soul rest in peace,” music maestro A R Rehman said.

“Sadly, the prayers of supporters and well wishers were not answered. The passing away of the iconic Amma is a huge loss for TN & the nation. Deeply saddened by Amma’s demise. She had a knack for always making state-Centre relationship work in favour of TN. My heartfelt condolences,” tweeted Shatrughan Sinha.

Actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani too wrote: “A formidable leader & a strong woman, sad demise of Selvi J. Jayalalithaa ji marks the end of an era. May her soul rest in peace! My deepest condolences to J Jayalalithaa ji’s loved ones and supporters in Tamil Nadu & across India in this hour of grief. Aum Shanti.”
