High security in Bengaluru, districts bordering Tamil Nadu

Last Updated 05 December 2016, 20:31 IST
Security has been beefed up across Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagaram, Mysuru and Chamarajanagar districts to thwart any attempts to trigger violence in the wake of the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The police have deployed additional forces at all check-posts in these districts bordering Tamil Nadu, to ensure peace, law and order. KSRP, CAR and DAR platoons have been stationed at Anekal, Attibele, Kanakapura, Talaghattapura and other towns in the five districts.

DG&IGP Omprakash has convened a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the security status in the state. “We have directed subordinate officers to be alert to face any situation,” said a senior police officer.

The Bengaluru city police have tightened the security, with special focus on Srirampuram, Okalipuram, Mysuru Road, Sagayipura, Timber Yard, Anjanappa Garden, Gauthampura, Indiranagar, Bharathinagar, Domlur and Baiyappanahalli, which are dominated by Tamil-speaking people. DCP (North) Labhu Ram held an emergency meeting with local leaders in Srirampuram and reviewed the situation.

The city police have increased patrolling in Bengaluru West and North, where violence broke out during protests over Cauvery water in the second week of September. The police are closely monitoring movements of those who had triggered the violence then. The police have decided to detain anti-social elements if need be. Jurisdictional DCPs have been instructed to monitor the security situation.
