Police nab gang that robbed travellers by honey trap

Four cars, other valuables recovered from gang of six

The town police have arrested six persons who used to rob travellers on the highways and recovered four cars and other valuables from them.

The arrested have been identified as Mohammed Saleem alias Bombay Saleem of Devanahalli taluk in Bengaluru Rural district, K B Dhanush alias Dhanu of Virajpet taluk in Kodagu district, Chinnaraju alias Chinni and Gangadhar alias Das of Doddaballapur, L Manjunath and Santhosh of Anekal taluk.

Superintendent of Police Sudhir Kumar Reddy told mediapersons here on Wednesday that the arrested persons were involved in 12 cases including theft, extortion, dacoity and murder and were wanted by the Peenya, Hennuru (Bengaluru) and Hyderabad police. Saleem had come out of the jail just a month ago. His nine more accomplices were arrested last week.

On October 28, the gang had honey-trapped a non-resident Indian travelling from Mysuru to Mandya and kidnapped him. They had withdrawn Rs 1.2 lakh using his ATM card and drove away with his car.  The gang was targetting passengers travelling in luxury cars, the SP said.

The police also recovered two gold chains, three motorbikes, a laptop, a television, a camera, 13 mobile phones, pistol and machete from the arrested.
