Modi draws flak from JD(S) over demonetisation

Last Updated 27 November 2016, 17:50 IST

JD(S) district unit president Meriyanda Sanket Poovaiah said the Union Government has failed in its implementation of demonetisation of currency.

Addressing reporters here on Sunday, he said even as the move was well intentioned, its implementation has been a disaster. He said as instructed by JD(S) high command, the party will not support the all India bandh on November 28.

He said it would soon be revealed if the government intended political vendetta as  there would be a backlash and people will not elect the party again. He urged the government to initiate measures to help rural people open bank accounts at their doorstep.

JD(S) district spokesperson P S Bharat said that by scrapping Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to prove that he was a wise administrator. He said JD(S) welcomed the demonetisation move but was unhappy with the way it was hurriedly implemented

JD(S) Madikeri taluk unit president Yaladalu Manoj Bopaiah said Union Government was in collusion with big industrialists as around Rs 6 lakh crore of unpaid loans availed by industrialists was being compensated by eating into the savings of  common people.

The step was an unscientific one and lacks farsightedness, he said. He also lambasted BJP party workers of gloating over the prime minister’s move and in the process, suppressing hardships experienced by people. He said demonetisation has adversely affected small industries and agriculturists while small vendors have lost business. He said agricultural labourers were not getting their daily wages too.

He said the wealthy and corrupt had escaped unscathed but it is the common people who have been standing in long queues at banks. He urged Centre to reveal details of those who have deposited money in foreign banks.

JD(S) minority unit president Mansoor Ali, leaders Madappa and Abrar were present.
