Last Updated 27 November 2016, 17:47 IST

One has to come out of narrow mindedness in order to get relief from stress, said HRD trainer M S Raghu.

Stress is also one of the reasons for obesity, he said, speaking at a workshop organised by the Rotary Club and Mysore Midtown Rotary for Police Department officials on combating mental stress.

The transformation from narrow mindedness to broad mindedness leads to a stress-free life. Fear, anger, jealousy, happiness and other emotions are normally expressed by human beings. But when one undergoes stress, these emotions are exemplified. This happens due to an imbalance between the mind and body, he added.

The human brain has data storage capacity equivalent to 1000 computers of 40 GB capacity each. As much as 55% of our communication is through gestures and 35% is oral communication. We communicate through language by only 7%. The capacity to communicate increases if we come out of stress, he explained.

Cops go through a lot of stress. They have to deal with personal problems, in addition to solving citizens’ problems. More work and less time leads to stress. Cops should learn to cope with stress, Raghu said.

Additional Superintendent of Police K Annappa Naika said that police officers and staff members face a lot of challenges today.

The work pattern has changed a lot in recent times and police staff must prepare themselves to manage time effectively so that they can give attention to their personal and professional lives.

M N Shadakshari said that soldiers fight with enemies outside the country while police fight those within. Every police staff member should give attention to developing his or her personality and to developing confidence. Anger and frustration do not solve problems.

Addressing through a video footage, SP K Annamalai said that police staff have to take care of their health.

Sometimes, one police staff member has to perform the duty of two people and he or she will be burdened. But, healthy mind and body will help them manage stress, he said.

Chikkamagaluru Rotary Club president M S Sudhir, Mysore Rotary president K B Harish, A N Ayyanna, director M L Raghunandan and trainer M R Vijay were present among others.
