BDA meet on Nov 15 to discuss Arkavathy Layout issues

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) commissioner Rajkumar Khatri on Wednesday said that a special board meeting would be held on November 15 to discuss the issues related to land losers and allottees awaiting compensation and sites in Arkavathy Layout.

The meeting will be chaired by the BDA chairman, and attended by the BDA commissioner, representatives of the land losers, farmers and allottees.

Khatri was speaking to a group of protestors and farmers in front of the BDA head office. BJP MLA Suresh Kumar also took part in the protest.

The officer said that the problems of the people were genuine and that the BDA officials had visited the layout more than six times in four months to resolve the issues.

“Last week, when the Arkavathy Layout allottees who were losing sites in the redo case had come to us, we promised to publish a seniority list on the website. Now, the allottees have a problem with that. The people are not convinced. We will share the feedback from the agitators with the board, for it to take a decision,” he said.

KG Layout refunds

Khatri issued orders for the formation of a help desk to hear and resolve problems pertaining to the layout. He told the agitators that the same problems will not come up in the case of Kempegowda Layout. Already the work on refunding the initial deposit money has started. On Wednesday, around 300 people were refunded and a total of 26,000 applicants who failed to get a plot in Kempegowda Layout will get the refund through RTGS mode at the earliest, he said.

Speaking to media, Suresh Kumar said he too will take part in the board meeting.
“It is sad that over 5,000 people are aggrieved and have been forced to make several trips to the BDA office to get sites and compensation. The BDA should hold orientation classes for its staff and the police to ensure that people do not attempt suicide, like it happened previously,” Kumar said. He said there was a need for government intervention to resolve the problems in Arkavathy Layout, before more people move the court.

Questions over steel flyover

Suresh Kumar sought to know how the government and the BDA could undertake the Rs 1,800-crore steel flyover project when they do not have money to pay compensation to land losers for the Arkavathy Layout and other infrastructure projects.

On the four-week stay granted by the National Green Tribunal on the steel flyover project, he said the BJP would wait and watch the final outcome, after which the next course of action will be decided. The BJP is against the project as this is not what the city needs to decongest it.
