Cops head to Guntur, Mathura to trace businessman's killers

Last Updated 01 November 2016, 18:57 IST

The police have launched a search for two contract killers who shot dead realtor-cum-financier Parachuri Surendra Kumar near his bungalow on Sunday night.

“We have constituted four special teams to solve the murder case. One team is working in Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, while another team is in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. There are definite leads about the motive behind the attack. The police will arrest the assailants soon,” a senior police officer said.

The police have questioned over 30 persons so far, including Kumar’s family members, friends, relatives and staff. The police said that a financial dispute between Surendra Kumar and his former manager Kapil triggered the incident.

Kapil had worked as a manager at Parachuri Global Foundation.
In a complaint to the RT Nagar police, Surendra Kumar had stated that Kapil had misused the foundation’s funds. He had also filed 12 petitions in a court in Uttar Pradesh against Kapil.

Kapil failed to comply with the bail conditions and hence he was remanded in judicial custody. Kapil’s family members had threatened to kill Kumar in Karnataka. Hence, the police have decided to detain Kapil for questioning.

During questioning, the victim’s personal assistant Deepankar told the police that he did not notice the registration number of the black Pulsar motorcycle on which the suspects sped away after the attack. The police said that local residents did not hear the gun shots as crackers were being burst in the locality when the attack took place.

The attack took place on 1st main road, Postal Colony, Hanumaiah Layout, which is just about 50 metres away from the Sanjaynagar police station, around 9.40 pm when Surendra Kumar was about to open the gate. The assailants accosted him and opened six rounds of fire from a close range and escaped.
