The health of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and DMK chief M Karunanidhi is improving, sources from the ruling AIADMK and DMK said.

AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa (68), who was admitted to Apollo Hospital on September 22 following fever and dehydration, on Wednesday morning approved the appointment of 18 ministers for the party’s election duties in Aravakurichi, Thanjavur and Thiruparankundram, which is going to polls on November 19.

Karunanidhi (92), who was suffering from a drug-induced allergy, was asked to take rest for a few more days. He has also been advised to avoid visitors.

The AIADMK, in a communique, said that with Jayalalithaa’s approval, the party has constituted four teams to oversee the election preparations for three Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu and one in Puducherry. However, the name of finance minister O Panneerselvam, who was allocated Jayalalithaa’s portfolios, does not figure in the list of party election observers.

AIADMK spokesperson

C R Saraswathi said the chief minister was showing improvement every day and would be discharged soon.
