Can't be defensive for long: Kishan

Last Updated 15 October 2016, 19:09 IST

With the score reading 215 for six in the final session, Jharkhand were in a spot of bother and they needed an innings of substance to avoid a collapse. And youngster Ishan Kishan proved to be the perfect rescuer for his team with a brilliant century.

Despite only the tail-enders remaining, Kishan adopted an aggressive approach and took Karnataka by surprise. The left-hander said that he felt a defensive mindset would have added more pressure on his team. “I can’t be defensive for very long. I like to keep playing my strokes and during my knock, I never felt shaky or unconvincing. Had I decided to stay a bit defensive, then the Karnataka bowlers would have made some plans to get me out and they would have dominated,” explained Kishan.

Kishan was involved in a 72-run stand with Tiwary and the 18-year-old said that their plan was to play to the merit ball and not take undue risks.
