The office bearers of Tribal Farmers’ Association took out a protest rally from Sudarshan circle to DC’s office in Madikeri on Friday, urging to fulfil their demands.

Tribal farmers’ association district unit president J P Raju said the state cabinet should send a recommendation to the Central Government to declare the area where tribal community people reside as Scheduled Tribe Area. “Individual and community rights should be provided to tribal community as per Forest Rights Act, along with providing five acre land each, to every tribal family. Tribal community was not consulted before announcing the World Heritage Sites. This is a violation of tribal act,” they said.

They said the pending applications under form number 50 and 53 should be sanctioned. The government should provide a second chance to those who have not been able to submit their applications.

The tiger project and elephant corridors should be scrapped before implementing Tribal Act 2006.
People belonging to Kudiya community are the primitives of Kodagu district and they must be included in Nutritious Food Project for Tribal community.
