Villagers meet Jung with grievances

Residents from Kheda Kalan village in north Delhi, along with Delhi BJP leaders, met Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung on Thursday regarding grievances of people living in 'dangerous' houses with cracked roofs.

Alleging that the Delhi government is not taking any step towards their rehabilitation, Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay  asked the LG to intervene.

Kheda Kalan residents submitted a representation along with photographs and video clips of dangerous cracks developing in over 180 houses in their village to the Lt Governor.

They lodged protest against authorities forcibly trying to evict them from their houses without providing any alternate accommodation.

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation had recently declared 17 houses in the village near Alipur as 'dangerous' after deep cracks appeared in the walls and ceilings.

Jung assured the delegation that he would seek an immediate report on the village from the concerned Deputy Commissioner and will direct the administration to work with a "humanitarian approach".

He also said that in the next few days he will direct the civic agency to extend full help to those who want to repair or re-strengthen their houses.

Upadhyay and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta also apprised the LG of other civic and administrative problems like rise in power tariff and pending claims of crop loss compensation for the last two years.
