Drawing inspiration from Portugal’s rich history and architecture is designer Charu Parashar’s collection ‘The Travellers Trunk’, which she will be showcasing at the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week on October 15.

The Delhi-based designer says that the collection is all about adding functional garments to women travellers’ wardrobe. “Each ensemble is unique and can be used as a separate. It can be teamed up with other garments to give it an Indian or international look,” she says, adding that the collection is a must-have for globetrotting women.

Parashar has borrowed motifs from towns like Cascais, Lisbon, Sinatra, Porto and Algarve of this southern European country. “I have tried to incorporate the free spirited feel of these places in my ensembles,” she tells Metrolife.

The collection comprises trendy capes, tops, kaftans, skirts, dresses and lehengas in hues like aqua orange, pink and fushia. According to her spring is all about rhapsody of colours and her collection is an ode to its beauty.

Parashar, who has been in the industry for over a decade, says that designers should reinvent their creativity to flourish in this competitive business. “Change is the only constant in fashion”, she says. She has also witnessed changes the industry has undergone because of social media, and feels that prêt is dictating new rules of the game. “Fashion has truly turned global. Now even fashion weeks focus on showcasing current seasons,” she tells Metrolife.

“Delivery times have reduced to four-six weeks. With content travelling at lightning speed, people have little or no patience level. They want to have the trending fashion in an instant — much before it becomes a fad. I doubt the current generation will have an old pair of jeans they had worn in high school. In the digital age, the word is ‘now’,” she adds.
