Deputy mayor stuns Congress, says JD(S) to head four panels

Last Updated 28 September 2016, 21:07 IST

Even before newly elected mayor from the Congress G Padmavathi could acquaint herself with the responsibility assigned to her, her deputy from JD(S) M Anand dropped a bombshell in the press conference by saying that JD(S) corporators will head four important standing committees.

At a joint press conference after the election, Anand said JD(S) corporators would be chairpersons of town planning, ward wise works, accounts and education. Padmavathi, who was sitting next to him, was taken aback with the announcement and there were murmurs among Congress corporators at the press conference. Sources in the Congress said the announcement was unexpected as decisions about the committees have not yet been taken.

Meanwhile, Jayamahal corporator M K Gunashekar was made the Congress leader in the BBMP Council while Umesh Shetty will be the opposition BJP leader, said sources.

Dissolving BBMP Council
BJP leader N R Ramesh has decided to move the High Court to dissolve the BBMP Council as no monthly meeting was held in September. “Monthly meetings can be avoided only if there is a serious law and order problem, which was not the case,” said Ramesh. He added that previous mayor B N Manjunath Reddy should have conducted the meeting before the mayoral election.
