Streamlined governance, upped revenue: Outgoing mayor

A day before demitting office, Mayor B N Manjunath Reddy on Tuesday listed his “achievements,” saying that he not only streamlined the administration, but also increased revenue generation in the Palike.

Addressing reporters, the Mayor said he made Palike more accountable to people and brought in order in the administration. Reddy claimed that the financial health of the BBMP was in shambles when he took over, due to large-scale irregularities. “We generated about Rs 4,000 crore from various sources and Rs 4,500 crore from the state government and other agencies,” he said.

He  gave a long list of achievements, some of which include Sahaya mobile phone application, free health check-up camps, e-toilets, measures against illegal hoardings, construction of 5,940 houses for SC/ST, OBC and minorities, night shelters and extension of mid-day meal programme to PU and degree college students in Palike-run institutions.

He claimed that he streamlined the advertisement section of the Palike, which will fetch at least Rs 321.22 crore in the coming days. Reddy, however, expressed regret for not being able to table the audit report of the previous years despite his strong wish.
