Jayalalithaa holds meeting in hospital

Following the Supreme Court order directing Karnataka to release 6,000 cusecs water, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa convened a meeting at the hospital, where she was admitted for fever and dehydration.

During the one-hour meeting, the top state government officials, comprising chief secretary Dr P Rama Mohana Rao and others, highlighted the application filed by Tamil Nadu on Monday that Karnataka shall not be heard on any matter on Cauvery until and unless it complies with and makes good the shortfall in releases as directed by the Supreme Court.

Jayalalithaa, was apprised of the directions of the Court on the applications filed by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with reference to the earlier orders of the Apex Court.
During the detailed discussion, Jayalalithaa also instructed state Public Works Department Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and other officials to attend the meeting as per Supreme Court orders, which had directed the Attorney General to facilitate a meeting with executive heads of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka with the Ministry of Water Resources to recommend ways to break the impasse over the Cauvery issue.

After deliberating in detail the issues to be taken up by Tamil Nadu at the meeting, Jayalalithaa also dictated her speech, which will be read out at the meeting by the chief secretary.
