Last Updated 26 September 2016, 20:47 IST

The drowning of a 10-year-old boy in a tank constructed for the immersion of Ganesha idol at Marutinagar in Yelahanka on September 18 came to light belatedly, after two of his friends revealed the matter on Monday.

The deceased has been identified as B Chandru. The victim’s father Ramesh and mother hail from Tamil Nadu and had moved to the city three years ago. They stay at a rented house and Chandru was their lone child.

Chandru and his two friends had gone to the lake for the Ganesha idol immersion. All the three entered the water. The two other boys came out, but Chandru drowned. The boys hid the matter, fearing consequences. The efforts of Chandru’s parents and neighbours in tracing him had gone in vain. On Monday, the boys disclosed the matter on being offered sweets and toffees by the neighbours. The water in the tank was pumped out and the body was retrieved, the police said.
