Six youths held for serial robbery

The RMC Yard police on Thursday arrested six youths who were involved in a robbing spree in Yeshwantpur and surrounding areas.

According to the police, on September 17, the six men on five bikes went on a robbing spree in Yeshwantpur, RMC Yard, Peenya and on Tumakuru Road.

Following a tip-off, Mohammed Mukarram, police inspector of RMC yard police station, along with his staff, went to the spot. He asked the youths to surrender, but they attempted to assault the policemen. Mukarram in a bid to save his men, fired twice in the air. The robbers started fleeing the spot. The police, however, managed to chase and nab Ayub Khan. Based on the information provided by Khan, the other gang members were arrested from various parts of the city.

According to the police, the arrested are Ayub Khan (19), Khwaja Moin (23), Nadeem Shariff (23), Mohammed Awez (18), Farhan Khan (19) and Mohammed Khashif (18). The police have recovered five bikes and 20 mobile phones worth Rs 3 lakh.

A senior police officer said that the youth were all drug addicts. They would commit robbery to make a quick buck. Their modus operandi was to commit a series of offences in a single night. They would strike again when they required money. The police have detected 11 cases against the gang. Ayub Khan and Nadeem Shariff had been released on bail recently.
