The Anekal police on Friday booked a former ACP’s adopted son and his two associates in a cheating case.

The suspects are Lingaraju D, a resident of Anekal, Tirumala and Manju, both residents of Nelamangala. Lingaraju is the adopted son of the late Dasharat Doddamani who retired as assistant commissioner of police. Doddamani had adopted his younger brother’s son Lingaraju. He died a few days after Lingaraju’s marriage.

Doddamani had bought a site in a layout developed by the police housing board society near Kachanayakanahalli. Lingaraju reportedly stole the original land documents after his death. He is said to have forged the documents showing himself as the owner.

Later, Lingaraju decided to sell the site for Rs 56 lakh to Tirumala. He requested Tirumala and his friend Manju to come to the sub-registrar office to complete the registration formalities on Friday.

Doddamani’s eldest son Kaverappa, however, got to know about the sale. He approached the Anekal senior sub-registrar, H M Venkatesh, and filed a complaint. Venkatesh verified the documents and found them fabricated.

He then filed a complaint with the Anekal police against Lingaraju and others.  “We have registered a case of cheating against Lingaraju and his associates under IPC section 420.

We will question Lingaraju and Kaverappa to ascertain the truth,” the police inspector said.
The inspector said they were yet to get full details of the case including the year of Doddamani’s. Meanwhile, Kaverappa has gone missing with documents forged by Lingaraju.
