Last Updated 22 September 2016, 19:35 IST

The M M Kalburgi, Govind Pansare and Narendra Dabholkar Hatya Virodhi Sangha of Dharwad has stated that Home Minister G Parameshwara had conducted a meeting with them in Bengaluru recently and disclosed that right-wing activists were involved in the killing of research scholar Kalburgi.

Informing this to media persons here on Thursday, Sangha representatives Basavaraj Sulibhavi and others said that they had taken out a protest to mark the first death anniversary of Kalburgi on August 30 in Dharwad. Thinkers and activists had set a 30-day deadline to the government to crack this case and book the assassins who are still at large.

Following this, the home minister conducted a meeting with the activists and apprised them of the CID investigation.

Sulibhavi said Parameshwara told them that the CID had begun investigation into the incident from several angles and zeroed in on a few right-wing organisations for hatching a conspiracy to eliminate Kalburgi. It is suspected that Dr Veerendra Tawade, arrested in Pune a couple of months ago, is the mastermind in the killing of Kalburgi. Efforts are on to get more information from Tawade, said Sulibhavi, quoting the home minister.
