Youths defy Geelani's diktat, show up at J&K recruitment rallies

Hundreds of young Kashmiris were seen lined up for recruitment in the army and the police on Wednesday at a time when the Valley is witnessing violent protests.

Defying hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani’s call to boycott the recruitment drive, nearly 600 young men were seen lined-up for recruitment in army in Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Reports said hundreds of young men from different villages had gathered at the high ground inside the 1-Rashtriya Rifles headquarters in Anantnag, to take a fitness test for joining the Indian Army as soldiers and for clerical posts.
 
The army has started a four-day open recruitment rally for south Kashmir districts of Anantnag, Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam, besides Budgam district in central Kashmir, from September 21 to 24 at the army headquarter in Anantnag.
