Video on Sagar man's plight in Saudi goes viral

A video showing Akbar Basha, a driver from Sagar working in Saudi Arabia explaining his plight, has gone viral on WhatsApp, triggering anxiety among his family members.

In the 3.38-minute video, Basha has said that he had not been paid for the last 14 months –– since the time he started working as a driver in Najran city. “When I demanded salary, my employer assaulted me. My passport is with him and he is demanding 5,000 Saudi Riyal to return it,” he says in the video. He also stated that he had no money even for food and he did not get any assistance from the officials of Indian Embassy. He has requested Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj to help him to return to his hometown.

Speaking to DH Basha’s mother Jubeda said “My son is in distress. I request the government to take measures for his safe return.”
