Final hearing of Krishna water pleas in apex court on Nov 9

The Supreme Court on Tuesday posted to November 9 the final hearing on multiple petitions filed by arnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, challenging the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal award.

A bench of Justices Dipak Misra and C Nagappan clarified that no adjournment would be granted in the matter, pending since 2014, from the next date of hearing.

Senior advocates Fali S Nariman and Anil Divan, appearing for Karnataka, and senior advocates C S Vaidyanathan, T R Andhiyarujina and A K Ganguly, representing Telangana, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, respectively, agreed to the court’s suggestion.

Vaidyanathan submitted that Telangana’s writ petition for a fair share of the water after reorganisation of Andhra Pradesh should be heard first.

The pending pleas
Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have filed special leave petitions against the final award of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal II. Telangana has filed a special leave petition and a writ petition against the decision.
