Flames at Cubbon Park station halt Metro for 15 minutes

Last Updated 27 August 2016, 20:54 IST

A minor flame coupled with burning smell and smoke inside the Cubbon Park Metro station led to tense moments on Saturday morning. This forced the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to stop the train services for 15 minutes as a precautionary measure.

At 11.15 am, an on-duty staff spotted minor flame from the cable gallery on the platform, possibly from the air conditioner duct. As a protocol, the station controller informed the Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services and the police apart from the BMRCL higher-ups, a senior BMRCL official said. Train services were immediately halted.

In less than 20 minutes, train operations resumed. However, entry was restricted for passengers to one side of the platform from where they had to take the train towards Baiyappanahalli. But, things were settled in an hour, an eyewitness said. As services were stopped for 15 minutes, trains ran jampacked for some time towards noon.
