Kidnapped when he was just a year and a half old, Sameer has been traced after nine years. But he is not keen on living with his real parents.

The 10-year-old didn’t even know that he had been kidnapped till Monday, when police reunited him with his biological parents — Afsar (46) and Farida (45).

Nargis (40) and Samin (39) had kidnapped Sameer as they couldn’t have a child of their own, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Rishi Pal Singh on Wednesday. The parents had filed a missing complaint at Krishna Nagar Police station in east Delhi in November 2007.

Farida was pregnant with another child then and had gone to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital for a routine check-up. She left the boy sleeping in the waiting area when she went into the doctor’s room. When she came back, he had vanished. Afsar and Farida made several visits to the Krishna Nagar Police station after that day. But they got their first clue last May, when they went to a wedding in Old Seelampur.

They showed their lost son’s picture to another guest at the wedding. The man told them that he had seen a boy who looked like that in the area. Afsar, who owns a mobile phone shop, alerted the police.

Police then came to know about the couple with a 10-year-old son living in Jahangir Puri. They had vacated a rented flat in May.

Police found the child after a search at a municipal corporation school in Old Seelampur where he was studying in Class 3. Afsar and Farida were brought to the school to look at the child from afar and identify him. They were certain that it was him, said the police.
On Monday, Sameer was sent to live with his biological parents.
