Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa, on Monday, said, the authorities concerned have been strictly directed to settle the petitions pertaining to Bagair Hukum lands and others by December end.

Speaking to reporters, after holding a progress review meeting at the zilla panchayat auditorium here on Monday, he said, over 5,000 Bagair Hukum farmers have applied for land rights.

“The officials have been directed to hold weekly meetings to settle the petitions in phases. The issues related to encroachment of government lands and construction of houses would also be discussed and steps will be taken to solve them. The last date to submit applications for regularisation of Bagair Hukum lands is August 27,” he said.

There is no clear direction from the court on distribution of forest lands. So, the Cabinet would constitute a sub-committee and take a decision in this regard, he added.

All the encroachments in the state would be cleared. As there is shortage of surveyors, action was delayed. The government has issued orders to appoint them at the earliest. The deputy commissioners have been given powers to fill the posts of village accountant, he said.

Thimmappa said, it is not possible to end corruption in Revenue department by wielding the magic wand at one go. “Corruption is a disease. Measures have been taken to put an end to it and to check its spread. With Sakaala, the works have to be completed within a stipulated time and the officials have been directed not to cause any delay. People should join hands in curbing corruption,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Ziaullah, CMC president Hosahalli Boregowda among others were present on the occasion.
