In 6 months, Metro travellers to get gateway to City rail station

Last Updated 17 August 2016, 20:05 IST

Namma Metro travellers looking to board outbound trains at the Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna (Bengaluru City) railway station can expect a hassle-free entry as an under-construction bridge connecting the Metro station with the railway station will be ready in six months.

At present, Metro users struggle to navigate their way to the railway station in the absence of signage and directions. They often depend on fellow passengers or security staff to reach the railway station or trace the unreserved ticket counter.

Ready by 6 months

N S Sridhar Murthy, senior divisional commercial manager, South Western Railway, Bengaluru division, told Deccan Herald that the bridge would be ready in six months as finishing touches were being to it.

Once ready, the bridge will have counter(s) for unreserved and platform tickets, the official added.

The 100-metre-long bridge will connect the foot overbridge on platform number 10 of the railway station with the Metro station located in Okalipuram. From there, travellers can reach any platform of the railway station.

Difficult to reach station

A security guard at the Metro station said newcomers to Bengaluru often found it difficult to reach the railway station after alighting from Metro. Guiding the travellers is not easy for the security staff either, especially during peak hours.

People coming out of the railway station face a similar problem in reaching the Metro station in the absence of signage. Sudhakar, a regular rail traveller, said the bridge would help first-time visitors to Bengaluru.
