Man held for sexual assault

The Vittal police on Wednesday arrested a man for sexually assaulting a minor girl. Balakrishna alias Keshav (31), the arrested, is a resident of Alike. He had visited her house when the family members were away and sexually assaulted her. A case has been registered under Pocso Act.

Buses seized

The Transport Department officials seized six buses which had failed to pay tax and renew the permits in Mangaluru. Deputy Commissioner of Transport and Senior Regional Transport Officer (In-charge) G S Hegde said the seized buses are service and contract carriage buses. All the seized buses have been parked inside the RTO premises, he added.

He said, “We had a doubt over some buses plying without paying taxes and renewing the permits. The drive will be continued in the future as well.”

Woman ends life

A woman, who was suffering from brain fever, committed suicide from fifth floor of a hospital in Kankanady in Mangaluru. The deceased is Kulsam (42), a resident of Bantwal. She was depressed after suffering from brain fever.

Pedestrian killed

A pedestrian was killed on the spot after he was knocked down by a car at Giliyaru in Kundapur during late on Tuesday night.

According to police, Gopala was aged 40 years. He was standing besides the road to cross on his way back home after work when the incident occurred. Though the car driver tried to flee the spot, he was stopped by the locals. A case has been registered in Kota police station.
