Now, get ration cards through Speed Post

Like passports, henceforth ration cards too will be dispatched to the beneficiaries through speed post.

The department of Food and Civil Supplies has also simplified the process of applying for ration cards.

All that a beneficiary is required to do is to furnish his/her Aadhaar number while applying online, and the card will reach the applicant’s doorstep within a few days.

The Manipal Technologies Ltd, which has already bagged the project for printing Aadhaar cards, will also be printing the ration cards.

The company, for which the tender is awarded, has been asked to dispatch the cards within three months. In the first phase, APL cards will be dispatched through speed post. The printing cost of each card is Rs 1.17.

According to Harsh Gupta, Principal Secretary to Food and Civil Supplies department, once the Aadhaar number is furnished online, then officials will visit the applicant’s residence for verification. Following this, the applicant’s details will be downloaded and printed. The printed card will then be sent to the applicant via Speed Post by the company.
