Auto, taxi strike hits life

The auto and taxi strike in Delhi caused inconvenience to various commuters on Tuesday.

The city’s auto and taxi unions went on an indefinite strike from Tuesday against the plying of app-based taxi services in the capital.

The public faced a hard time finding autos and ones which agreed to ply, charged more than the usual.

“I had to walk till C R Park from my home to find an auto till Nehru Place Metro station. I stood there for 15-20 minutes to find the auto. One finally agreed to go but said he will charge Rs 50 whereas I daily pay Rs 30 on this route,” said a commuter.

Twenty unions of autos and taxis have formed a Joint Action Committee, which has called for an indefinite strike, demanding banning of the app-based cab services in the city.

The government, however, called the strike “politically motivated” and said that banning the operation of app-based cab services does not come under its ambit. The situation was bad in main areas like Connaught Place and Kashmere Gate.
