Hundreds of commuters had turned up at the Kempegowda Metro station early on Tuesday morning only to find closed shutters.

In the wake of the strike by KSRTC and BMTC buses, those who reached the city early from different places across the state on private buses and trains had to wait for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) to start operations at 6 am.

When asked, BMRCL officials said there was crowd only around 6.30 am. Namma Metro saw ridership of more than one lakh till 6 pm.

Metro commuters had to also suffer due to the absence of feeder facilities at different Metro stations.

However, BMRCL continued to operate from 6 am to 11 pm. Autorickshaw drivers were carrying three to four passengers in their vehicles and were charging Rs 20 from each of them for a ride from Majestic to Sampige Road. Besides, Metro bike operators said there was a surge in demand for their vehicles at Baiyappanahalli and Trinity Metro stations.
