Sri Krishnarajamudi Ustav was celebrated with religious fervour at Sri Cheluvanarayanaswamy temple at Melkote in Mandya district on Sunday night.

Hundreds of devotees thronged the town to offer prayers and have a glimpse of the rajamudi. The diamond-studded crown and other jewellery were brought from the district treasury in Mandya city amid tight police security on Sunday evening. After completing the rituals at 9.30 pm, the idol was decorated with the ornaments and taken out in a procession and then returned to its original position at 11 pm.

A few devotees trying to capture the idol on their mobile cameras during the procession were said to have caused inconvenience to others seeking the darshan.

The rituals scheduled for the week are: Gajendramoksha and Anevahanotsava on July 26, Maharathotsava on July 27 morning, Teppotsava on July 28, Ashwavahanotsava on July 29, followed by Pattabhisheka and Samarabhoopalavahanotsva.
