Clinical Amandeep triumphs

Golf Women's Pro Championship

Pace-setter Amandeep Drall expectedly wrapped up a thumping victory in the Hero-KGA Women’s Pro Golf Championship here on Friday.

Leading by eight shots overnight, Panchkula’s Amandeep didn’t take anything for a granted on a glorious day for golfing as she carded one-under 71 to total 213 and complete a superb 11-shot win.

Neha Tripathi, who was among the favourites to win here in the absence of Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor, settled for second place after shooting a respectable 71 while Gursimar Badwal ended third at 225 following a third successive 75.

Just like on Thursday, Amandeep started the final round on a poor note, bogeying the opening hole itself. But, similar to what she did in the second round, she fired birdies on the second and third holes to get back on track.

She dropped a shot on the seventh but birdies on the 11th and 15th kept her on course for a huge victory. Seemingly delighted at the way she had won, she lost concentration on the final hole to drop a bogey. That, of course, didn’t matter at all.

Leading scores (after 54 holes, ‘A’ denotes amateur): 213: Amandeep Drall (70, 72, 71); 224: Neha Tripathi (79, 74, 71); 225: Gursimar Badwal (75, 75, 75); 227: Sharmila Nicollet (78, 76, 73); 228: Trisha Sunil (78, 76, 74); 231: Millie Saroha (A, 75, 82, 74), Suchitra Ramesh (A, 76, 79, 76).
