KSCA may seek Hedge's advice

The Karnataka State Cricket Association is planning to request retired Supreme Court judge Santosh Hegde to head a legal team to advice in amending the association by-laws to ensure the effective implementation of all the recommendations of the Lodha Committee.

The suggestion to approach Hegde came from secretary Brijesh Patel during Friday’s emergent managing committee meeting during which it was also decided to defer KSCA elections scheduled for August 7.

“We have decided to form a committee to look into the implementation of the Lodha Committee recommendations. The secretary (Brijesh) has suggested the name of Santosh Hegde. We need to meet him and try to request him if he can guide us in the implementation of these Lodha Committee recommendations,” noted KSCA spokesperson Vinay Mrutyunjaya on Friday.

The KSCA will now have to implement Lodha panel’s recommendations before conducting elections. “First we need to implement the Lodha Committee recommendations and then conduct the AGM. Right now, we have been asked not to go ahead with the election and that's why we have put it off. We have to wait for further directions,” he pointed out.

Mrutyunjaya refused to comment on the eligibility criteria, including on restriction of number of terms.

“We have nothing to say. Let us wait. There are so many clarifications. Since there is no general body, there's no reaction to give. Let all clarifications come.”

The three three-year-term cap, to be implemented retrospectively as clarified by the Lodha panel, effectively rules out some of the incumbent officials at KSCA from contesting for any office bearer’s position.
