The Indian Vehicle Drivers’ Trade Union felicitated 55 drivers from across the state with ‘Sarathi No 1’ awards for excellent professional service to celebrate the World Working Drivers Day on Thursday.
Basavaraj S, a cab driver for Wipro in the city, was awarded a gold medal and 54 others were awarded silver medals for accident-free service. Drivers of BMTC buses, KSRTC buses, private cabs and autorickshaws were also honoured.
Apart from accident-free service records, drivers who had displayed professional conduct like rushing accident victims to hospitals, returning lost belongings of customers were also recognised.
