Last Updated 18 July 2016, 20:17 IST
Pre-university college lecturers in the state have once again threatened to launch an agitation if their demands are not fulfilled.

At a state-level conference held on Monday, the Karnataka State Pre-University College Lecturers’ Association set a September 5 deadline for the government to meet their demands. If not, the association said, it will observe the Teachers’ Day on September 5 as  ‘black day’. The lecturers also decided to boycott classes after that. “The government thinks that we raise the issue only during exams and evaluation. This time, we are bringing it to the notice of the government much earlier,” said Thimmaiah Purle, president of the association. He said lecturers should not be held responsible for not completing the syllabus.

Primary and Secondary Education Minister, Tanveer Sait, said that he had spoken to the chief minister on the issue and is hopeful of reaching a solution before the deadline.

The lecturers also gave a representation to Sait requesting him to withdraw a recent order regarding shifting of additional teachers. The Primary and Secondary Education department had passed an order to shift excess teachers through counselling.
