Govt manipulating probe, says Shettar

Last Updated 14 July 2016, 19:03 IST

BJP leader Jagadish Shettar on Thursday said the government is trying to manipulate the ongoing investigations into police officer M K Ganapathi’s suicide case. The investigating officers have not been given a free hand, he said. “The CID officials have sought to file a first information report based on the complaint by the family but the government is not giving them the permission to do so,” he added.

Seconding Shettar, Kumaraswamy said the government had promoted a police officer, who is part of the investigation team. He said that D C Rajappa, Superintendent of Police, CID, was hurriedly given a promotion on July 13. “Rajappa is in the investigation team. What was the need to promote him at this juncture?” he wondered.

‘Dharna to continue’
BJP leader Jagadish Shettar and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy said that they would not call off their day-night dharna against the government till Minister KJ George resigns.
The leaders, addressing the media jointly, said the government is hurriedly passing bills, though there were two more work weeks left in the legislature session.

Shettar said the government, with “mala fide intent”, was keen on adjourning the ongoing monsoon session sine die.

 ‘SC Judgements twisted’
Kumaraswamy said Siddaramaiah, in his statement on the suicide case, had twisted the Supreme Court judgements while arguing on behalf of George. In addition, he had “bluffed” about the facts related to the suicide case.

Kumaraswamy said that if the session is adjourned abruptly, then both parties would take their fight to the people. “Siddaramaiah’s seat might become shaky if he drops George. Maybe that’s the reason why he is protecting him so fiercely,” he said.
