Candidates belonging to other backward classes (OBC) falling within non-creamy layer categories will get a relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks in direct recruitment to teaching positions in universities and colleges.

They will also get a relaxation of 5% in qualifying marks in admissions to M Phil and PhD programmes.

The Centre has approved the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) decision to bring the OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates at par with the those belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The relaxation will also be applicable to special students, according to the revised regulations.

The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the candidates belonging to these categories will remain permissible, based on the qualifying marks without including any grace mark procedures, the notification said.

“A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the decision of the Commission from time to time,” the Commission stipulated another revised regulation on admissions to M Phil and PhD programmes.
