A teacher in Jayanagar conducted a spell bee competition for students sitting in classrooms in Nandini Layout, Koramangala and Hebbal with the help of a technology introduced by Cisco.

As part of its CSR initiative, the software company, which specialises in networking equipment, introduced video conferencing in the schools run by NGO Parikrma. The President of Cisco Systems, Dinesh Malkani inaugurated the facility at the school in Jayanagar amid the excitement of the children.

Parikrma is a an NGO which works to provide quality education to underprivileged children in the city. Shukla Bose, the founder of Parikrma said, “This is going to be very helpful for us. If we have a teacher in one school who has a unique, innovative method to teach a math problem, students in the other three schools can also benefit from it.”

Cannot replace teachers

With virtual classrooms, these schools are not strangers to technology in any way. Dismissing the fear that most teachers have, Bose added, “Technology can never replace teachers. While a computer may be able to tell the student how to solve a problem, only the teacher can explain why the problem exists.”
