JOIN USThe Supreme Court on Tuesday asked Delhi Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (DSGPC), a body managing Gurdwaras, and others to come out with suggestions on their plea for ban on circulation of jokes on Sikh for commercial purposes.
A bench of Chief Justice T S Thakur and Justice D Y Chandrachud gave six weeks time to the organisation as senior advocate R S Suri, appearing for the DSGPC, submitted that a committee, comprising former SC judges Justice H S Bedi and Justice M Y Eqbal, Rajya Sabha MP Pavan Varma and others, had been set up for the purposes.
Advocate Satinder Gulati, appearing for the SGPC, an organisation managing Gurdwaras in several states here, also submitted that the petitioner formed its own panel consisting of K S Grewal, retired judge, Ramesh Inder Singh, former chief secretary Punjab among others, for formulating points for adjudication for the apex court.
Harvinder Chowdhury, herself a Sikh lawyer, was the first to approach the apex court seeking direction to ban jokes on the Sikh community.
