The Karnataka State Billiards and Snooker Association, the mecca of cue sports in the country, will host the IBSF World Billiards Championship later this year.

“The KSBA will host the World Billiards Championship,” Billiards and Snooker Federation of India secretary S Balasubramaniam said following a managing committee meeting that was held on the sidelines of the Indian Open. “The dates will be confirmed in 45 days but it is most likely to be held in December.”

The committee also decided to split the national championships into two segments. While the Junior and Sub-junior event will now be advanced and held in November, the Seniors will be conducted in January-February.

“We heard lot of kids saying that they are not able to compete in the nationals because they are very close to their final exams. So we decided to advance them to November for both boys and girls. This will help them prepare better for their exams as well. The seniors will continue to be staged in January-February.”

Pune will host the Junior (November 2016) and Senior nationals (January 2017) while the national pool championships will be held at Delhi. The 6-red national snooker championships will also be held in Pune later this year.
