Swamy silent over PM rebuke

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rebuke for attacking the RBI governor, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy came up with intriguing tweets and stayed away from the prying media.

He quoted a “Bhagavad Gita” verse in one of his posts on Tuesday for maintaining “equilibrium”.  “The world is in general equilibrium. A small change in one parameter effects changes in all variables. So Krishna advised: Sukh Dukhe....,” he stated.

Another tweet was a suggestion to read a book that stated he had helped as a union minister during former prime minister Chandrashekar’s regime to honourably cremate former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Later, Swamy turned against Sonia Gandhi-led Congress party. “PTs read Madhav Godbole’s new book: Unfinished Innings on how as Minister I helped RG be cremated honourably in 1991. Contrast TDK on PV,” Swamy’s post read.

Though media tried throughout the day to seek his reaction on Modi’s reprimand, Swamy was incommunicado. The BJP leaders were wondering how long the Rajya Sabha MP can keep his mouth shut. In an interview to a television channel on Monday, Modi had ticked off Swamy and had described his attacks on Raghuram Rajan and finance ministry bureaucrats as “inappropriate”.

He had also said that he wants to send a “clear message” that party leaders should  remain within a system. The craving to speak out of turn, as per Modi, was “fondness for publicity” which would do no good to nation.  Modi’s comment has brought an end to Swamy’s almost daily running commentary against Rajan and chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian.
