Widespread, heavy rains batter state

With the monsoon gaining momentum, heavy rains continued to lash several parts of the state on Monday.

Copious rains lashed several parts of Shivamogga district. Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Hosanagar, Sagar received good spell of rains throughout the day.  Rainwater gushed into several houses in low-lying areas of the city. Shikaripur and Sorab also received good spell of rains. Water level in Linganamakki dam witnessed slight rise to1,754.85 feet (maximum level: 1,819 feet)

Incessant rain lashed parts of Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts. Heavy rains coupled with gusty winds brought down a tree on a moving truck, killing a man at Odabai in Sullia. In the last 24 hours, DK district recorded 52.5 mm of rainfall. Sea erosion has intensified in Ullal and Ucchila region. As many as 23 houses are facing the threat in the region.

Kodagu district received moderate rains. With Talacauvery region experiencing good rainfall, water-level at Sangama in Bhagamandala has increased by one foot. Heavy rains lashed Kalasa in Chikkamagaluru. There was moderate rains in Mysuru.

There were reports of intermittent rains in Uttara Kannada district. However, Karwar received uninterrupted rains for more than two hours. In the last 24 hours, the district recorded 589 mm of rains.

There was widespread rain in Haveri district. Several roads in Haveri town were waterlogged as stormwater drains have been clogged.

Heavy rains lashed Dharwad and surrounding areas towards noon, throwing normal life out of gear. It rained for more than two hours in Hubballi. There was only a drizzle in Belagavi and surrounding areas.

It rained heavily in Hosapete for more than two hours. Water had stagnated on several roads affecting movement of vehicles. Students had to wade through knee-deep water to reach their houses. Raichur received  heavy rains for about 45 minutes in the noon.
