Solar scam: NBW against Saritha

The Justice G Sivarajan Commission probing the solar scam, issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against key accused Saritha S Nair over her failure to appear for sitting despite repeated summons.

The commission on Thursday directed her to appear on June 27 failing which she would face arrest.

Saritha has failed to appear for four consecutive sittings. Her counsel submitted that she needed more time before her next deposition since she was scheduled to have a surgery on her arm on Saturday.

The counsel had earlier stated that Saritha would appear for Thursday’s sitting. The judicial commission observed that the accused was evading deposition by citing flimsy reasons. Saritha was scheduled to submit evidence to back her charges in connection with the scam.

The solar scam was exposed after Saritha’s arrest in 2013. The fraud was anchored by Team Solar, a company run by Saritha and former partner Biju Radhakrishnan, who collected money from investors in solar and wind energy projects by claiming they had connections in the Congress-led previous government and office of former chief minister Oommen Chandy.

Biju is serving a life sentence in connection with the murder of his wife.
