Man held for murdering mother-in-law

A man was arrested on the charge of murdering his mother-in-law over a domestic dispute in Basavanagudi recently. The suspect was identified as Mohammad Akhil-ur-Rehman (38), a resident of RK Garden in Neelasandra.

Akhil-ur-Rehman had hacked his mother-in-law Saeedunnisa (54) to death at her house on Khazi Street in Basavanagudi on June 18, said the police.

‘Black magic’
During the interrogation, he confessed to the police that he hacked Saeedunnisa to death as she used to harass him and his sons by black magic spells. She had also stopped lending him money. Hence, he decided to murder her, he told the police.
He got a duplicate key of the house done, used it to gain entry inside when she was sleeping on the night of June 18. He assaulted her with an iron box, stabbed her with a dagger and strangulated her with a pillow, said the police.

The murder came to light around 7.30 pm the same day when the victim’s husband Afzal Ahmed returned home. The following day the police had constituted a special team to nab the culprit, added the police.

Pedestrian killed
A 36-year-old pedestrian was run over by a speeding car near Kempapura Junction on Monday night. The deceased was identified as Gangadhar (36), a resident of Gauribidanur, said the police.

The accident occurred around 10.30 pm when the victim was crossing the road. Sheikh Hafeezullah, 52, a resident of Sahakaranagar, who was overspeeding lost control of the vehicle and mowed him down. Gangadhar was rushed to Columbia Asia Hospital, where he died on Tuesday morning. The police arrested Hafeezullah and seized his car, added the police.
