BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa on Tuesday denied the BJP had entered into an understanding with the Congress for the Legislative Council polls.

Yeddyurappa was reacting to JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda’s comment on Sunday that just to win a single Council seat, the BJP had tied up with the Congress.

Gowda had added that the BJP did this while Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been saying India would be free of Congress.

The BJP leader said there was no understanding with the Congress to ensure the BJP’s second candidate’s win in the Legislative Council polls.

“We had an understanding with the Independents for our second candidate for the Council polls. We had no tie-up with the Congress. I do not know on what basis Gowda made the statement,” Yeddyurappa stated in a press release.
