Siberian Husky Zorro returns home

Aftab Khan and his family members emerged from a week of gloom on Thursday morning when they heard someone saying that Zorro is standing next to his house being tied to an electricity pole.

“I and my family members were sleeping after breaking our fast in the holy month of Ramzan when a boy from neighborhood shouted from outside that Zorro is back,” said Khan, the owner of Zorro.

“Although I had woken up from my sleep, it took a while for me to convince myself that this is real and not a dream. I strictly told the boy to not untie it until I reached there as I first wanted to click its photos and check its condition,” Khan added.

The Siberian Husky dog was taken away by alleged pig thieves on the morning of June 3 when during a walk with his owner in the Vasant Kunj enclave area Zorro heard noises of pigs coming from inside a car and started chasing the vehicle.

The owner and his family members thanked police and media for putting pressure on the abductors which made them return their prized pet unharmed.

“I would like to thank you people (media) for taking the matter so seriously. Without this coverage I don’t think the abductors would have felt the need to return the dog,” Khan said.

Rushed to vet

Visibly weak and scared, Zorro looked a far cry from his previous self. After reuniting with the family, he was rushed to a veterinary for his checkup.

“My biggest worry was whether Zorro would survive without proper care or not. In the morning when we brought him home, the first thing he did is to drink liters of water. He was not in good shape, I think he had been kept hungry for many days,” Khan said.

Khan’s children were especially happy seeing their beloved Zorro back and revealed how they had stopped playing and socializing due to the absence of the Siberian Husky.

“I am very happy by its return. It looks surreal seeing him back. I had given up hope of seeing it back, and was trying to learn how to live without Zorro,” said Kashif, younger son of Khan and the closest in the family with the dog.

Police had registered an FIR under section 379 IPC (punishment for theft) in Vasant Kunj (south) police station.
