Shreyas spurs Swastic to win

Shreyas Gopal produced an all-round performance to propel Swastic Union Cricket Club (1) to a seven-wicket win over Friends Union Cricket Club (1) in the KSCA Group I, Division I cricket league for the Sir Mirza Ismail Shield here.

Batting first, Stallin Hoover’s 41, Chiranjeevi’s 45 and Vinay N Sagar’s 40 not out helped Friends Union CC (1) post 179 in 39.5 overs. Shreyas claimed a five-wicket haul (5/41) for Swastic Union CC (1). He was backed well by Abrar Kazi (2/22).

In response, R Samarth (66) and Shreyas (51) struck a half-century each as Swastic Union CC (1) declared on 211 for nine in 53.2 overs, ensuring a lead of 32 runs in the process. Naveen B with figures 7/49 was the best performer for Friends Union CC (1). Stalin also took two wickets (2/22).

In their second essay, Friends Union made 193 in 64.2 overs, with Akhil B (58) and Naveen Balachandra (50) scoring a half-centuries as they set a 161-run target. Shreyas again came to the fore, bagging four wickets (4/76) this time while Akshay (3/33) and Abrar Kazi (3/43) took three wickets apiece. Samarth hit a quickfire 84 not out as Swastic Union overhauled the target in 20.3 overs.
