Villagers lend a helping hand to crash victims

Accustomed to seeing aircraft flying by every day, villagers at Khair and nearby Siddhipur Loha at first didn’t notice the Beechcraft King Air C-90A circling over their homes at a very low height.

However, a little later they saw that the aircraft was flying in a “zig-zag” manner, said Mukesh, a woman who lives a few hundred metres from the place where the aircraft crash-landed.

“When the plane was flying awkwardly, I saw that the pilot just missed a building narrowly. After that the plane took a U-turn and took a dip towards the ground and crash-landed in a field,” said Mukesh.

On hitting the surface, the aircraft lost one of its wheels. It kept moving ahead until it lost another wheel and came to a screeching halt.

Mukesh and her husband Devender, who had been keeping a close eye on the aircraft, said for a moment they were scared seeing the plane skidding towards their house after the crash-landing.

“I asked my kids to leave the house immediately as for a moment I thought if the aircraft didn’t stop it might hit our house,” Mukesh said.

After the aircraft came to a halt a few hundred meters away from the cluster of houses in Siddhipur Loha, the villagers mustered courage to go near it and look for the injured. “I ran towards the aircraft and saw 7 people inside the aircraft. The pilot came out of the plane and started walking with a limp. I saw the daughter of the patient crying and I pacified her. I offered water and took them out of the plane,” said Devender.
