A woman was allegedly gang-raped by two men in a moving car in North West Delhi’s Maurya Enclave. The two accused persons were known to the victim. One of the accused was arrested after the incident.

The arrested man has been identified as Neeraj, 23, a resident of Budh Vihar. Neeraj hails from Aligarh, and was preparing for competitive exam after completing his engineering studies, said police.

The other accused is identified as Dev. Police are raiding different places in the city to arrest him.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning when the girl was standing near an underpass outside Rohini Court. She was on her way to meet her friend in Samyapur Badli. Within a few minutes she was approached by two men in a car.

The two men were known to her and offered the woman a lift.

The woman alleged that when she got into the car she was offered a drink which made her dizzy. She further alleged that she was driven around in the capital while the men took turns raping her. She also said that she was assaulted when she tried to resist their attempts.

The car pulled over near Mongolpuri where the accused dumped her. After that the duo fled the spot.

She later went to the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and informed the doctors about her ordeal. Police have registered a case based on the woman’s statement.

“The woman has alleged that the accused persons were known to her, one of them even helped her to get a job in a pharmaceutical company a while back,” said a police officer.

“The victim met Neeraj one year back during a call centre interview, where they exchanged their numbers after a round of talk. Since then they were in touch with each other through whatsapp,” he added.

Questioning of Neeraj about the possible whereabouts of Dev is currently underway, police said.
