Now, Metro commuters passing by the Kashmere Gate station will be able to beat the heat by having a cold glass of RO purified water for just Re 1.

The RO plants providing potable drinking water at the kiosks will be operated by women belonging to economically weaker sections of the society.

With an aim to provide potable drinking water to its commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in association with Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TP-DDL) has launched the first Any Time Water RO Plant (ATW) at Kashmere Gate Metro station on Wednesday.

As part of MoU between the DMRC and TP-DDL, the latter will install such RO plants at four more Delhi Metro stations.

These include Vishwavidyalaya, GTB Nagar, Jahangirpuri and Rithala during the current summer season.

“The RO water purifiers at this plant have a capacity of 500 LPH (Liter per Hour) and installation of the same has been done to provide potable drinking water to the passengers using Kashmere Gate Metro station,” said the DMRC in a statement.

“A glass of cold RO water (200 ml) will be available at a very nominal cost of Rupee One from this ATW plant. The day-to-day operations of the RO plant will be managed by the women of Self Help Group (SHG).”

“Tata Power-DDL has already formed 290 such Self Help Groups in jhuggi jhopri clusters to address the issue of unemployment and infuse the spirit of entrepreneurship development in women,” it added.

The RO plant was inaugurated by Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited and Sharat Sharma, Director (Operations), Delhi Metro Rail Corporations Limited in the presence of senior officials from both the organisations.
